While this article and the steps listed can be about any dream, this article focuses on the dream of being the author of your own children’s book.
You had this story idea that you couldn’t get out of your head. You could see it. You wanted to get your story out into the world. You wanted to make it come to life.
But…
Life got in the way. Or there just wasn’t enough time. You put it on the back burner for so long you’d periodically forget about it.
But…
It would keep resurfacing and tug at you.
It’s still happening, and you wonder if it’s possible to make your dream come true after all this time.
Well, it is possible to revive and fulfill a fading dream.
Motivated people do it every day.
You can make this very day the day you poke your dream, awaken it, and make it happen.
Think of the quote by Mark Twain:
“It’s not what you’ve done that matters, it’s what you haven’t done.”
You just have to believe you can do it and begin taking the necessary steps that will bring you closer to fulfilling your dream.
Top 5 Ways to Revive Your Fading Dream And Bring It to Life.
1. Write down your vision.
Every professional knows that keeping a journal of the most important things you intend to achieve is a smart way of moving forward.
Writing down your fading dream will give you a clearer image of where you want to be and it will help you realize that fulfilling your dream is possible.
Writing things down is also a smart way of reducing a seemingly huge and impossible task into a much more sizable and doable undertaking. It is a sure way of reviving and fulfilling a dream.
2. Find out what needs to be done to bring it to life.
After writing down your dream to remind yourself of that burning desire you once had, do some research and find out what you need to do to bring it to life.
For example: Do you have to change your schedule? Do you need to create a budget? Do you have the skills? Do you need to take a class or an online course? Do you need help? Where can you find help?
Once you determine what needs to be done or changed, go ahead and create a list of action steps.
3. Finding your path.
You’ve finally built up the courage to go for it. You’ve always wanted to be the author of a children’s book and now you’re in a place, and time where you can make it happen.
Or, you still aren’t in the right place, but you’re tired of waiting.
This is the time to list each step you’ll need to take to live your dream.
Before you make your list, though, it will be necessary to decide what direction you’ll be going in.
This means you’ll need to ask yourself some questions.
If the answer is yes, jump in and start your outline or draft (if you’re a pantser).
If you don’t know how to write for children, what’s your next question?
2. Should I (can I) learn to write for children?
This is a great way to become the author of your own children’s book. But to do it right, are you willing to invest the time and energy in learning the skill?
If the answer is yes, go for it. There are plenty of online classes, books, and coaches available for you. Just take your time to learn the craft.
If the answer is no…
You’ve thought about it, and you’d rather not have to learn to write for children. That’s fine; then it’s on to the next question.
3. How else can you accomplish your dream?
Do you start a story, then hire a children’s writing coach to help you? Or do you hire a ghostwriter?
After a lot of consideration, including the time and effort involved and the budget, you decide on a children’s ghostwriter.
4. Now it’s on to an actionable list.
Identify the main things that need to be done to get where you want to be.
1. Research children’s ghostwriters. 2. Contact the ones who sound legit, experienced, and professional. 3. Find out if you’re dealing with an actual writer or a service with a lot of writers, possibly unskilled writers. 4. Find out if the writer is an experienced children’s writer. 5. Ask to speak with the writer. 6. Ask for writing samples from the writer you’ll be working with. 7. Read testimonials. 8. Find out the cost. 9. Find out how it all works, including the timeline. 10. Find out about revisions, edits, and proofreading.
After your action list is made, tackle each item.
5. Jump in.
It can be scary to do something new and invest in yourself, but getting to know the writer and seeing samples of her writing can help ease your fears or anxiety.
If you have questions, ask the ghostwriter you’ve chosen.
If you follow your action steps and keep moving forward, you’ll soon bring your faded dream of becoming a children’s author to life.
