Editing

Okay, you’ve got your manuscript just right. You had your critique group look it over, you revised it numerous times, you proofed and edited it…it’s finally ready to go!

But, wait a minute. Did you remember to have it edited?

NO? Uh,oh. That’s a huge, gigantic, enormous mistake.

There are thousands of writers vying for that accepted pile on an editor’s desk. Publishers don’t have the finances or man-power to bother reading anything less than a polished submission. So, if you have structural problems, grammatical or punctuation errors, you can be assured your manuscript won’t even get read.

As good as your critique group and your self-editing is, it’s wise to have an editor look it over. A trained eye catches problems in a manuscript that the author and critique group will not.

Don’t take chances with your treasure – let us make sure your story has every advantage possible of getting published.

Some problem areas you need to look out for:

Are you using the ‘find word’ function in your word processor to see if you’re over using a particular word or phrase?

Are your quotation marks in the correct place?

Are you showing rather than telling?

Is your writing filled with run-on sentences?

Are your punctuation marks correct?

Should you be using a comma or semi-colon?

Is your structure sound?

Are you overusing adjectives and adverbs?

Is your story lacking clarity in certain parts?

These are just a few questions you should be asking yourself.
